Remarkable possibility arises from our community’s greatest asset: our people. Thus, Raise the Bar commits to supporting Findlay-Hancock County’s workers and residents on their journey to become the best versions of themselves. By investing in character (soft skill) development, we help individuals nurture the virtues and principles they need to thrive. We want to ignite untapped talent potential and transform classrooms, workplaces, and homes.

Youth Embracing their Genius and Potential

FranklinCovey’s Leader in Me (LIM) framework enables our community’s youngest to truly recognize and embrace their potential and genius from an early age. Raise the Bar strives to develop leaders in grades K-12, thus it commits three years of initial funding toward school districts for LIM coaching, student and teacher materials, and program sustainability.

Youth are already rising to their leadership potential thanks to the LIM framework. Students are:

  • gaining confidence in themselves and their future,

  • setting and achieving positive goals,

  • working well with their peers and finding solutions where everyone wins, and

  • committing to working hard and persisting even when things are difficult.

Currently involved districts: Findlay City, McComb, Arlington, and Liberty-Benton.

Outstanding ‘leader in me’ award

Raise the Bar has partnered with Hancock Youth Leadership for this program.

Our community works incredibly hard to build each other up and grow together. We want to highlight and recognize the students, teachers, and faculty who are making a positive impact on our community by upholding the Leader in Me values in a focal point of their everyday lives.

We want the foundation and character building qualities of the Leader in Me program to stay with the students from elementary through high school, and beyond to their personal and professional lives. We hope this encourages other schools in Hancock County to jump on the opportunity to have Leader in Me in their schools. We want to show them the benefits and improvements the students have made by having Leader in me in their schools.

Young Adults Executing Workforce-Ready Soft Skills

Workforce readiness correlates with effective soft skills. Unfortunately, too many young adults execute unproductive soft skills that make them late for work, unable to adjust to change and challenges, unable to respect authority, or unable to clearly communicate.

Raise the Bar, thus, aims to strategically integrate FranklinCovey leadership content into postsecondary settings (i.e., college, university, apprenticeships, and career tech) so more individuals will be workforce ready for their entry-level positions.

  • Raise the Bar supports the University of Findlay’s College of Business and College of Education with integrating FranklinCovey’s LeaderU platform into their respective programs. Specifically, the College of Business applies one training module to each of its four 1-credit hour leadership courses (BUAD 101, 201, 301, and 401). The College of Education integrates the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People(R) and the Leader in Me into their Bachelor and Master’s-level courses.

  • Apprentices in the local Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program at Owens Community College-Findlay also learn the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People(R) through the LeaderU platform. Developing soft and technical skills in this two-year apprenticeship program is essential to the workforce’s success.

Associates Engaging with Work and Driving Success

Poor leadership costs employers significantly. Associate absenteeism due to failed leadership costs employers $2,600 per salaried employee and $3,600 per hourly associate. Furthermore, poor leadership turns off good employees and increases the likelihood of turning away current customers. Finding a new customer costs 5-times more than retaining a current customer.

Raise the Bar strives to improve associate productivity and employer profits by helping employers invest in their current and future leadership. Deploying a leadership training program designed by employers for employers will ensure associates receive beneficial knowledge and an opportunity to demonstrate their new/refined skills.
